What it felt like - Triumph Uncorked Benefit Concert 2021

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

Since 2016 my husband and I have been volunteers for a local non-profit cancer organization called Triumph Cancer Foundation. For the past three years we had the pleasure to assist at their unique outdoor concert event hosted in the beautiful vineyards of Helwig Winery. The location has the most stunning views, charm, and simplicity of the Shenandoah Valley of Amador County; definitely a place that anyone should visit if around the area!

Despite 2020’s unexpected virtual changes, this past Saturday October 16th, 2021 the non-profit, cancer survivor foundation again held one of their most important events of the year, the Triumph Uncorked benefit concert. All proceeds from Triumph Uncorked go to Triumph Fitness - the signature program of Triumph Cancer Foundation - and towards the objective of enrolling more cancer survivors into the life-changing program at no cost.

My husband, other attendees, and I witnessed a fantastic evening full of great music from Pop Fiction, delicious food (catered by Selland’s Market, OBO’ Italian, and Karen’s Bakery), and exquisite wine from Helwig Winery.

The event started with the words of the Founder and fellow cancer survivor, Pam Whitehead. After her cancer journey she saw an unmet need in the community to help survivors recover from cancer treatment through exercise; she is the reason why this fitness program exists and is still offered today. During Pam’s speech she mentioned that this year was very special because it was the 11th annual Triumph Uncorked event and marked the 16th anniversary of Triumph Fitness.

The evening continued with friendship, joy, and lots of support. Heather Picca was this year's graduating guest speaker. She became my friend on the trails this summer during Triumph to the Summit 2021, a hiking event hosted by the foundation. Myself and hundreds of other people were able to hear her survivor story and how Triumph Fitness impacted her life positively; according to her this program was an important piece in her recovery.

2020 was certainly different and difficult for us all. Regardless of the challenges Triumph has adapted and evolved favorably, building the foundation’s objectives stronger than ever before. The success of this event is a testament to the professionalism, teamwork, and camaraderie from all the teams that make it happen.

As a spectator this year, rather than a volunteer, I lived the full experience of Triumph Uncorked. Pam and her team made me feel like a part of the family. This annual event is a great platform to say thank you to all the people that support the Triumph Fitness program and demonstrates the importance of the foundation in our community. It doesn't matter if you are a volunteer, an instructor, or a guest we all are TRIUMPH!
